A Weaving of Equity

Transformative Educational Leadership Journal | ISSUE: Fall 2022

Join Indigenous Educator and Leader Heidi Wood in a video of her sharing of a shawl she wove as a physical act of her learning and reflections from TELP. In creating this piece, Wood models her own learning and offers an invitation to us to consider how we might best engage authentically in equity work.

It has been a challenge to bring in authentic cultural ways of knowing, doing and being into my various leadership roles. I am reminded of the importance to begin the learning from my own strengths and to be authentic in my words, my actions, and my curiosities. To honour that moment of pause, that space between learning and doing, to reflect on my TELP journey, I made the decision to the readings, the discussions, the case studies to weave a shawl.
